Stars stop Caps with 4-goal 2nd

Tyler Seguin scored twice during a four-goal second period, and the host Dallas Stars held off the Washington Capitals 4-3 in a battle between two of the NHL’s top teams on Saturday night.

Washington leads the Eastern Conference, and Dallas moved into a tie with Chicago for the Western Conference lead.

Seguin has 30 goals this season. Jamie Benn scored his 29th, and rookie Mattias Janmark started the scoring with his 11th.

Alex Ovechkin, Justin Williams and Andre Burakovsky scored for Washington in the third period. Ovechkin’s league-leading 35th came on the power play.

Capitals goalie Braden Holtby lost in regulation for just the second time since Nov. 12. Philipp Grubauer replaced Holtby in the third period and made 10 saves.

Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen stopped 20 shots.

Ducks 3, Blackhawks 2: Ryan Getzlaf scored a power-play goal at 2:16 of overtime as visiting Anaheim handed Chicago its third consecutiv­e loss. Cam Fowler’s shot was stopped by Corey Crawford, but Getzlaf poked the rebound under the sliding goaltender. Ducks goalie John Gibson departed with an upper-body injury, and Chicago wing Marian Hossa left with a lower-body injury.

Predators 5, Panthers 0: Backup goaltender Carter Hutton made 22 saves for his second shutout of the season and Calle Jarnkrok scored twice for visiting Nashville. Florida forwards Quinton Howden (upperbody injury) and Brandon Pirri (lowerbody injury) left the game early.

Maple Leafs 5, Canucks 2: Mark Arcobello netted his first two goals of the season 17 seconds apart in the second period, and Brendan Leipsic scored in his NHL debut as visiting Toronto ended a three-game skid.

Hurricanes 6, Islanders 3: Andrej Nestrasil and Victor Rask scored two goals apiece and Jordan Staal and Phillip Di Giuseppe each had two assists for host Carolina. Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward left with a lowerbody injury.

Blue Jackets 4, Senators 2: Boone Jenner scored twice and Joonas Korpisalo made 33 saves as host Columbus won for the fourth time in five games. Ottawa defenseman Mark Borowiecki left the game after he lost his balance and went face first into the boards.

Jets 2, Oilers 1: Andrew Ladd scored the winner in the shootout for visiting Winnipeg.

Devils 2, Flyers 1: Adam Henrique scored a power-play goal 2:58 into overtime for visiting New Jersey. Philadelph­ia defenseman Michael Del Zotto would be out for “weeks” due to an upper body injury sustained in a collision with Kyle Palmieri, Flyers general manager Ron Hextall said.

Bruins 4, Wild 2: David Krejci broke a tie in the second period and Jonas Gustavsson made 31 saves to help Boston to its sixth straight road win.

Sidelined: Los Angeles placed wing Marian Gaborik on injured reserve because of a knee injury suffered Friday. He reportedly will be evaluated in Los Angeles on Monday.
