Born in 1928 in Berlin, Germany and died in So. San Francisco at age 87. He is predeceased by wife Elfriede “Ella” in 2008 and son Christian in 1991. He’s survived by children Cornelia Raisner (Bob) and Ray Rex (Jane); grandchildren Justin (Carol), Ryan, and Carolyn Raisner; cherished great-granddaughter Allison Raisner; and, several siblings and many nieces & nephews in Germany.

After the war, Gunter brought his family to Queens, NY, where he worked as a machinist for Mack Trucks and also became an ordained minister. He opened a small church on 67th Ave.

Later he moved the family to SF and worked as a tool & die maker for American Can and other Peninsula industries. His job was phased out by computerization and he retired early. He & his wife relocated to Dinuba, CA, where he took a daily swim from May-Oct. When his health declined, he moved back to the Bay Area.

He was an avid reader and lifelong student of religions and philosophy. Dictionaries in English, German, Latin and notebooks were always nearby. He was usually in good spirits, very polite and lit the room with his smile. He prided himself on being able to adapt to new situations.

The family extends gratitude to 1st Pacific Coast Homes for their dignified and loving care and Pathways Hospice for their medical, emotional, spiritual support.

A private graveside service was held at Smith Mountain Cemetery in Dinuba, CA on Feb 8, 2016.
