Stand by Fewer

-

Regarding “School board member asked subordinates for donations” (Sept. 24): As colleagues on the Board of Education, we can attest to Sandra Lee Fewer’s integrity as a public servant, and the transparent and honest leadership that she has consistently displayed.

Over her three decades of service in public education, she has cultivated strong relationships and the deep respect that Fewer’s colleagues have for her is abundantly clear. For eight years, Sandra Lee Fewer has been the moral conscience for the school board.

She does her homework and works hard to address the concerns of families and educators.

Throughout our years working with her, we have witnessed the deep affection and respect that San Francisco Unified School District employees have for Fewer. It is no wonder that she has received such strong support, including the sole endorsement of the United Educators of San Francisco.

Based on what was reported, we have no reason to believe that Fewer violated either School Board policy or San Francisco Ethics Commission law. We stand behind Fewer, her integrity, and tremendous service on behalf of the students, families, and staff of SFUSD. From President Matt Haney and Vice President Shamann Walton.
