NEW MOVIES

- — Leba Hertz

Battle of Algiers: This rerelease of the 1966 Italian neorealism film directed by Gillo Pontecorvo, starring Jean Martin and Saadi Yacef — and with a score by Ennio Morricone — deals with the war against the French occupation in North Africa.

Cameraperson: This memoir documentary by Kristen Johnson, whose work behind the scenes has ranged from “Fahrenheit 9/11” to “Citizenfour,” includes footage she has shot from around the world.

Danny Says: The life of Danny Fields is explored in this documentary. Fields has worked for such musicians as the Doors, Cream, Lou Reed, Nico and Judy Collins and was manager for the Stooges, the MC5 and the Ramones.

Deepwater Horizon: Peter Berg directs and Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell and Gina Rodriguez star in the docudrama about the titular drilling rig that exploded in April 2010 and resulted in the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

The Lovers and the Despot: A famous director and actress have split up and then are kidnapped by Kim Jong Il, forced to make films and fall in love again. As far-fetched as this sounds, this is a documentary — though why should we be surprised if this involves North Korea?

Masterminds: A bank heist is put together by a night guard at an armored car company. It’s a comedy because among the many funny people, it stars Jason Sudeikis, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Owen Wilson and Zach Galifianakis. Based on a true robbery in North Carolina in 1997.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children: Tim Burton directs this fantasy based on a novel by Ransom Riggs. Stars Asa Butterfield, Eva Green, Samuel L. Jackson and Judi Dench. Many of them have special powers.

Spa Night: Life at a Korean spa in Los Angeles, in which a closeted teenager finds out about gay sex.
