War casualties:
A decorated U.S. soldier from Illinois and an Army civilian employee from Oklahoma who both had been deployed multiple times in Afghanistan were killed in an attack this week in Kabul, the Defense Department said Friday. Army Sgt. Douglas Riney, 26, of Fairview, Ill., and Michael Sauro, 40, of McAlester, Okla., died of wounds received when they encountered hostile enemy forces in Afghanistan’s capital, the military announced. NATO said the attacker wore an Afghan army uniform. The attacker was later killed. Sauro, who was scheduled to return to the U.S. in March, was on this third deployment in Afghanistan.
