Cal took the field Friday night without junior running back Vic Enwere, and that’s the way it’s going to be for the rest of the season.

Enwere broke a bone in his foot during the Oct. 8 overtime loss to Oregon State and has been ruled out for the season, according to the team.

The Cal depth chart lists only Khalfani Muhammad and Tre Watson at running back, but offensive coordinator Jake Spavital said sophomores Billy McCrary and Patrick Laird could see snaps with Enwere sidelined.

Enwere is second on the team in rushing yardage, having run for 345 yards and two touchdowns. He ran for 505 yards and eight scores last season. All-purpose history: With 147 all-purpose yards in the first half (86 rushing, 51 kick return and 10 receiving), Muhammad passed Na’il Benjamin (3,836 yards from 1993-96) and Joe Igber (3,879 yards from 1999-2002) for seventh place on the school’s all-time list.

The senior can now set his sights on the top five. Jahvid Best had 4,045 all-purpose yards, and Shane Vereen finished with 4,069. Freshman first: With defensive tackles Rusty Becker and Luc Bequette sidelined with injuries, freshman Chris Yaghi was forced to burn his redshirt season with his first snaps of the season late in the first quarter.

Yaghi racked up 95 tackles, 25 tackles for a loss and 10 sacks in his final two seasons at Foothill High-Santa Ana. He was considered by most scouting services as the No. 4 defensive tackle in California. Looking ahead: Cal senior DeVante Wilson was on the USC team for two seasons, but injuries kept him from playing. It’ll be in a different uniform, but it’ll mean the world to the Southern California native when he finally takes the Coliseum field Thursday night.

“I’m sure my emotions are going to be running high,” Wilson said. “Having gone to USC and having never gotten to play at the Coliseum, it’s going to be a pretty big deal for me to be able to go home and play on that field.”
