1 Pipeline protest: More than 80 people protesting the Dakota Access pipeline were arrested Saturday during a demonstration at a construction site near Mandan, N.D. Morton County sheriff ’s spokesman Rob Keller said authorities were called to a site located about 5 miles from where protesters have been camping out for weeks. The sheriff ’s office said officers used pepper spray when some protesters attempted to breach a line that officers had formed between demonstrators and construction equipment. Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier said Saturday’s incident showed that “this protest is not peaceful or lawful.” More than 220 people have been arrested since demonstrations against the pipeline began in August.

2 Recycling fire: A fire that tore through a Southern California recycling center and sent up a cloud of smoke visible for miles has been brought under control. Crews worked Saturday to mop up scattered hot spots on the sprawling property in Ontario (San Bernardino County). The center stored wooden pallets, bales of cardboard and other recyclables. About 200 people living nearby were evacuated Friday and have since returned home. The cause of the fire is investigation.

3 Police shooting: The Rev. Al Sharpton called Saturday for a community summit on policing after the fatal shooting of a mentally ill woman in New York City. He said at his weekly action rally that a summit with the police commissioner and others must be held “within days” because “these things keep happening.” The victim, Deborah Danner, 66, was shot at her Bronx apartment after she threatened a police sergeant with a bat. The police commissioner and mayor have condemned the shooting.

4 Deadly flooding: A company involved in a water main break in Boston that killed two workers has a history of safety violations, federal records show. The workers were trapped Friday when a deep trench where they were working flooded in the South End neighborhood. They were identified as Robert Higgins, 47, and Kelvin Mattocks, 53. Occupational Safety and Health Administration records show that Atlantic Drain Services, of Boston, has received citations for workers lacking oxygen underground and for conditions that could lead to cave-ins. Records show the company faces tens of thousands of dollars of unpaid fines for violations dating back to 2012. A call to Atlantic Drain Services was not returned Saturday. 5 Grace Kelly home: The Philadelphia home where Oscar-winning actress Grace Kelly grew up and accepted a marriage proposal from Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1955 is now in the hands of the royal family. Her son, Prince Albert of Monaco, has confirmed to People Magazine that he was the recent purchaser of the six-bedroom, 2.5story Colonial home in the city’s East Falls section. He said in an interview on the magazine’s website that the house is “very special to our family.” He said he was happy to have saved it “from a near certain death or development.”
