Lincoln continues run with win over Galileo

This isn’t the most talented team Lincoln coach Phil Ferrigno has had, but it sure gets a lot of contributors and pulls together when it counts most.

Such was the case in a gritty 21-18 Academic Athletic Association win over visiting Galileo on Saturday.

Senior quarterback Roel Marania and sophomores Charles Peacock and A.J. Aduwesi scored touchdowns, and linebacker Ellis Moye and lineman Ronald Phelps made big defensive stops for the Mustangs (5-4, 4-0) who won their fifth straight game after starting 0-4.

Marania rushed for a score and passed to Aduwesi for another, Peacock rushed for more than 100 yards, and the defense stopped Galileo (2-5, 2-2) in the red zone four times, including in the final minute. The Mustangs will face Mission in two weeks for the AAA regular-season crown.

“It was a great, hard-hitting game, but our guys just hung tough when they needed to,” said Ferrigno, who has won five San Francisco Section titles

and appeared in four other finals over the past 12 seasons. “Galileo has some tough kids and good athletes and (Galileo coach) Mark (Huynh) does a great job. But I like this team. They play for each other.”

Adrian Poot threw touchdown passes to Erasmo Rivas and Marvell Despanie for Galileo, which is 4-3 on the field but had to forfeit two wins for using an ineligible player. Poot also ran and passed for twopoint conversions. It wasn’t quite enough.

Said Huynh: “It was a great game. We just came up a little short. We need to do better obviously in the red zone. Back to the drawing board.” No. 16 Serra 41, No. 21 Mitty 14: Sophomore quarterback Luke Bottari threw for two touchdowns and running

backs T.C. Lavulo and Isiah Kendrick each rushed for two as Serra (4-4, 4-1 West Catholic Athletic League) won its fourth straight game, this one at Mitty (4-4, 2-3), which got rushing touchdowns from Phillip Tran and Zondre Faraj-Washington. Charles Quinn and Shane Villaroman caught TD passes and James Halpin added two sacks for the Padres, who trailed 7-6 before taking a 27-7 halftime lead. Bottari played his second straight game in place of reigning WCAL Player of the Year Leki Nunn, who is week-to-week with a pinched nerve in his neck. No. 18 Marin Catholic-Kentfield 56, Drake-San Anselmo 0: Spencer Petras completed 11 of 14 passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns in the first 15 minutes, and the Wildcats (7-2, 6-0 Marin County Athletic League) recorded their fifth straight shutout, this one over visiting Drake (1-7, 1-4). Hunter Juarez caught four passes for 84 yards and two scores for Marin Catholic, which finished with 525 yards and has scored 264 unanswered points over the past five weeks. Redwood-Larkspur 76, Novato 7: Nick Calzaretta rushed for 260 yards and five touchdowns — all in the first half — as the host Giants (7-1, 4-1) rolled to the MCAL win over Novato (2-6, 1-4). In his past three games, Calzaretta has rushed 41 times for 970 yards (23.7 average) and 16 touchdowns.
