Maison Fleurie

-

Just across the street from tony Bardessono, the stone- and brick-fronted main house of boutique Maison Fleurie — the oldest hotel in Napa Valley — signals the French country charm within. Four Sisters Inns, which includes Yountville’s Lavender Inn among its Wine Country properties, extensively remodeled the original 1873 building, plus a carriage house and bakery building, two decades ago; as with the gardens on site, the resulting 13 guest rooms and public areas have maintained their fresh, Provencal-inspired bloom.

If you want a king room with spa tub and patio, the tab will run you close to $400 a night, but if you’re willing to cozy up to a companion, or are traveling solo, note that the romantic, brick-walled Petite Queen (10 by 12 feet) and third-story Garrett Queen (9 by 9 feet) rooms cost half that or less. Both have shower-only bathrooms; the Petite Queen’s sink is just outside the bath.

All guests may partake in the ample morning buffet, including a hot entree such as Grand Marnier French toast, or for an extra $10, savor breakfast in bed. Fresh-baked cookies appear at 3 p.m., followed by complimentary wine, cheese and other savories at 5 p.m. A hot tub and pool lie hidden from casual view, while a handful of loaner bicycles are available first-come, first-serve.

6529 Yount St., Yountville. (707) 944-2056, (800) 788-0369, www.maisonfleurienapa.com. From $200 weekend, $185 midweek (two- or three-night minimum during holidays).
