OFFENSE

The 49ers had 25 first downs and their second-most yards of the season (475), and their 7.7 yards per rush were their most since 2014. Most of the damage was done by Colin Kaepernick, who accounted for 409 yards and all three TDs. It probably would have been a winning performance if not for two turnovers that led to 10 points.

DEFENSE

The 49ers’ miserable run defense rose up to stuff Jay Ajayi (45 yards), but Ryan Tannehill had three TDs and a 130.6 passer rating. The defense helped key the comeback by forcing three-and-outs on Miami’s last two drives, and S.F. forced a punt after the Dolphins started a drive at the 49ers’ 24 in the third quarter.

SPECIAL TEAMS

The Dolphins had a 78-yard kickoff return and the 49ers’ kickoff returner, JaCorey Shepherd, had a forgettable performance. Shepherd returned a kick to the 9-yard line and muffed another kick in the end zone that he downed. Bradley Pinion had a 59-yard punt and 45.8 net average.

COACHING

Defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil employed a unique one-defensive-lineman defense that wasn’t particularly effective. DeForest Buckner was the only DL on the field for a 43-yard TD pass to Kenny Stills and a 17-yard completion to Jarvis Landry. Chip Kelly’s two challenges resulted in reversals on catches by DeVante Parker.

OVERALL

Kelly-Kaepernick is starting to look like a decent combo, but will either be around in 2017? The 49ers are 1-10 and their recent signs of progress still haven’t produced a win, meaning some changes must be made. Right?
