Daniel Dana “Deke” Jackson, III

Daniel D. Jackson, age 88, passed away on January 7, 2017 at UCSF Hospital.

Deke was born in New York City. His younger brother was Christopher S. Jackson. They were raised in New York, Mattituck Long Island, and Campton, Maine. Deke graduated from Dartmouth College, where he was captain of the varsity swim team as an All-American. In 1950 Deke joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a Lieutenant Naval Aviator in the Korean War, flying Cougar Jets (F9F-6) on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Oriskany. After the war he was stationed at Moffet Field.

In 1955 while working at Lee, Higginson & Co., Deke attended NYU’s Graduate School of Business. He married Jeanne Ryan in San Francisco at St. Dominic’s Church in 1956. They returned to San Francisco and Atherton in 1957 where they raised three sons.

Deke’s illustrious investment banking career spanned sixty years. He began in finance in 1957 as Vice President at Lionel D. Edie in San Francisco. For nearly 10 years he served as Vice President & Director at Glore Forgan, Inc. In 1973 Deke opened the San Francisco office of Kuhn, Loeb & Co. as its Resident Partner. In 1977 Deke joined The First Boston Corporation as a Managing Director and head of corporate finance. In the early 1980’s he moved to Sutro & Co. and in 1990 he joined Hambrecht & Quist. In 1999 Deke formed Jackson Capital where he remained active in mergers, acquisitions, corporate advising, and private investments.

For more than 20 years Deke served on the Board of Directors for such firms as duPont Glore Forgan, First Boston, ITEL, ROCOR, Koracorp and Marketron.

Deke was a consummate businessman. He had an enthusiastic interest in helping others with their careers, serving as a valuable mentor and advisor to many young professionals.

Deke was a member of the Lynx Club, the New York Athletic Club, the Pacific Union Club, the Burlingame Country Club, the Menlo Circus Club, and the Lyford Cay Club. He was captain of Midway for 25 years at the Bohemian Club and was a founder of the Glenbrook Club.

Deke is survived by his wife Jeanne of 61 years, his three sons, Dana, Michael and Christopher, and six grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held at 3pm on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at St. Dominic’s Church, 2390 Bush Street in San Francisco. Reception to follow.
