Gerry, as she was known to family and friends, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. Gerry was a native San Franciscan. She is the daughter of the late Ernest and Lucille Devine and sister to Brother Richard Devine, SJS and the late Thomas Devine. Beloved wife to husband, Grant, for the past 64 years. Mother to Richard (Diana), Donna, Dan (Cathy), Tom (Dorothy), and Denise (Randy). Grandmother to Matthew, Laurie (deceased), Andrea, David, Anthony, Megan, Michael, Michelle, Adam, Brian, and Christa. Great grandmother to Emmett and Thomas. Aunt to many nephews and nieces back east.

Mom always put her family first, always reminding people that she “raised five kids”. Mom was a precursor to the modern day do-ityourself shows. She wasn’t afraid to tackle any remodeling project no matter what her basic skill set limitations were. She just went ahead and got it done. She was a terrific seamstress sewing not only clothes but also drapery, bed sets, upholstery, etc. Gerry was active in her faith serving many years in the Women’s Club at Mater Dolorosa Church in South San Francisco to her later years serving as a Hospital Eucharistic Minister for St John Vianney Church in Walnut Creek.

Donations in Gerry’s memory may be made to The Respite Inn, 906 Lee Lane, Concord, CA 94518. The family would like to thank the staff at Reyes Guest Home for the excellent care they provided to mom for the past two years. In addition we would like to thank the staff from Hospice of the East Bay for the comfort and care they provided these last six months.

There will be a viewing and mass on Thursday, Jan 19, 2017 at St John Vianney Catholic Church, 1650 Ygnacio Valley Road, Walnut Creek, CA. The viewing will start at 10:00 AM and the mass will commence at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow. The burial service will take place on Friday, Jan 20, 2017 at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1500 Mission Rd, Colma, CA. The service will take place at 11:00 AM at the Holy Cross Chapel.
