The road to Friday’s inaugurati­on of Donald

Trump as the nation’s 45th president has prompted “NBC Nightly News With Lester

Holt” to hit the road as well. Holt will anchor the “NBC Nightly News” today at 5:30 p.m. on

NBC Bay Area from Sacramento, before heading on to Warren, Mich., Fayettevil­le, N.C., and winding up in the nation’s capital, where he will anchor the network’s coverage of the Trump inaugurati­on on Friday beginning at 7 a.m. Pacific Standard Time and including an expanded one-hour edition of the “Nightly News.”

While in Sacramento, as well as the other stops on the “Across America” trip, Holt will talk to ordinary citizens about pressing issues of the day.

“Across America” brings Holt back to his roots. The Marin native majored in government at California State University Sacramento.

Holt became permanent anchor of the “NBC Nightly News” in June 2015.

Howie Mandel was on the road as well, but in another direction — to Montreal for the “Just

for Laughs Festival,” billed as the world’s largest comedy event. He was up there taping the “Howie Mandel All-Star Comedy Gala,” set to air at 8 p.m. on the CW. The two-hour special features stand-up from Jay Pharoah, Iliza Shlesinger, Russell Peter, JB Smoove and others. Season 10 of “Fast N’ Loud” on the Discovery Channel and the second season of “The Story of God With Morgan Freeman ”on the National Geographic Channel begin at 9 p.m. HBO’s watchable mess “The Young Pope” moves to its regular 10 p.m. time slot today, starring Jude Law as a chain-smoking American-born pope with a taste for cherry Coke Zero. “Timeless” is back with new episodes at 10

p.m. on NBC. ABC airs the final two episodes of the first season of Jimmy Kimmel’s “Big Fan,” the first one at 10 p.m. with Kim Kardashian West and the season finale at 10:30 with Kristen Bell.
