The Trump presidency will improve life for all

- By Howard Epstein Howard Epstein, a retired small-business owner, is the vice chair for communications of the San Francisco Republican Party.

The inauguration of Donald J. Trump as the 45th president of the United States lays down a new path forward for the country that will be a strong departure from the Obama years.

Having at the helm a very successful businessman, who will use time-tested management methods, is badly needed. Trade deals will be negotiated to put America’s interests first. The hallmarks of the Trump administration will be a strong economy and a rebuilt defense.

For our safety, President Trump will work to defeat the Islamic State and other terrorist groups to end their reign of terror. He will work with Congress to repeal the law (sequester) limiting the federal budget. The sequester’s limits on defense spending have led to a badly understaffed military with outdated equipment. He will re-prioritize spending to increase Army and Marine personnel, increase the number of Navy ships that has been dangerously decreased, and modernize Air Force jets.

President Trump will not pay a $400 million ransom to Iran or any other country or group as did President Obama.

President Trump’s economic policies will concentrate on strengthening the economy. The anemic gross domestic product growth of the last eight years has led to nearly 5 percent unemployment, and to a reduced labor participation rate, the lowest since the late 1970s.

President Trump has laid out a multifaceted economic growth plan that includes, among other things, reduction of job-killing regulations, and tax reforms that will keep manufacturing and other jobs in the United States.

As a retired business owner, I know first-hand the hardships over-regulation causes. Fewer regulations will allow business to thrive and hire more people.

President Trump’s tax reforms will lower the tax rates, reduce tax loopholes and concentrate on building up the shrinking middle class. Multinational U.S. companies will be able to bring overseas profits home to invest here. Child care will be tax-deductible.

The economic growth plan calls for rebuilding the country’s infrastructure (some through public-private partnerships and some by allowing states flexibility on how to spend federal dollars), which will also increase job growth.

President Trump also has a plan for energy independence.

Considering his plans to improve life in America for everyone, the unprecedented, childish, temper- tantrum liberals are throwing is truly disturbing to me and millions of other Americans. Their over-confident candidate lost the election fair and square.

Our country traditionally has a peaceful transition of power. Yet we see celebrity entertainers refusing to perform at the inauguration. Media reports have documented threats of loss of work to entertainers considering participating.

Reports said that mobs would try to block the entrance to Trump’s swearing-in ceremony. Protest marches were planned all over the country: These will not lead to anything productive but will cost taxpayers tens of thousands if not millions of dollars.

Trump supporters are regularly trashed on social media. In San Francisco, supporters of President Trump did not put Trump signs on their homes or cars for fear of vandalism or ridicule.

The left’s overreaction to the election results gives new meaning to the phrase “sore loser.”
