NFL salary cap is $167 million

The NFL salary cap for the upcoming season will be $167 million per team, up more than $12 million over last year. The league and the NFL Players Associatio­n compile the cap from specific revenues, and it has risen annually. It was $143.28 million two years ago.

This is the fourth consecutiv­e year the cap has risen at least $10 million.

Five-time Pro Bowl linebacker James Harrison signed a two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers that will keep Harrison in black and gold past his 40th birthday. Harrison led the Steelers with five sacks in 2016. Soccer: Lynn Williams scored her second career goal in the 56th minute and the U.S. women’s team opened its 2017 slate with a 1-0 victory over Germany in a matchup of the world’s top two teams in Chester, Pa. Alyssa Naeher made an early diving save and earned the shutout for the topranked Americans in the She Believes Cup, a fourteam round-robin tournament that includes England and France.

An early goal from Lionel Messi helped Barcelona to a 6-1 romp over relegation-threatened Sporting Gijon and into the Spanish league lead. Barcelona leads Real Madrid, which tied Las Palmas 3-3, by a point. Golf: Michelle Wie shot a 6-under-par 66 on Thursday to take the lead late in the first round of the HSBC Women’s Champions at the Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore. Brooke Henderson, Inbee Park, Mo Martin and Anna Nordqvist were tied for second, a stroke back. Tennis: Roger Federer squandered three match points in a 3-6, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5) second-round loss to Russian qualifier Evgeny Donskoy at the Dubai Tennis Championsh­ips.
