Deep thoughts, cheap shots & bon mots ...

-

We can put a man on the moon, but we can’t develop a whiteboard that will withstand the wrath of Steve Kerr. Sad!

This might make the drafting decision easier for NFL clubs: I hear that Christian McCaffrey will promise any prospective NFL team that if it is invited to the Sun Bowl, he will play.

All by himself, Matt Barnes has put the Warriors over the NBA tattoo cap. Rick Tittle of 95.7 the Game says, “Barnes must have a tattoo that says, ‘Continued on next body.’ ” Does that mean Barnes is a Buddhist?

Hey, it could happen: “The 49ers come to the line of scrimmage. Here’s the snap. Kaepernick hands off, it’s a halfback sweep, McCaffrey has the ball and Kaepernick is his lead blocker ... ”

Or maybe you 49ers fans prefer to be bored to death for another season?

Apparently, winning 70-plus games in the NBA isn’t as easy as it looks.

I stand in awe of the Warriors’ flowing, passing offense. But there are instances when it’s Curry Time, when Steph gonna Steph. Thursday night in Chicago, Stephen Curry made a lefty layup, holding off a 7-foot defender with his right arm, and on that play I counted 24 dribbles as Curry weaved through about seven defenders. Pure magic.

Suggestion for Colin Kaepernick (it will sound nutty, but hear me out): Many see your kneel-down protest as an insult to soldiers and good police officers. So how about kneeling every other game. I’m standing to honor and support our troops and our good law enforcement people . ... Now I’m kneeling to protest the bad stuff.

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock says of McCaffrey, “He’s bigger and tougher than people think he is.” Really? I’ve seen the guy, so I know how big he is. As for toughness, I’m glad Mayock set me straight. All this time I thought McCaffrey got away from so many tacklers because he was scared of getting hit.

Joe Girardi of the Yankees says he knew how to avoid the risk of a fresh relief pitcher coming into a game and having to intentionally walk his first batter. Says Girardi, “I’ve often wondered why you didn’t bring in your shortstop ... (and) let the shortstop walk” the batter. Uh, Joe, you’ve been a big-league manager for a decade.

The critics are right, Kaepernick distracted the 49ers last season. Until he started that protest junk, the 49ers were Super Bowl-bound.
