Angels shut down Street

-

An MRI exam on Angels reliever Huston Street found that he suffered a lat strain during his outing Friday, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Street, competing for the closer’s job, won’t throw for at least three weeks, the newspaper reported, making it unlikely he will be ready for Opening Day.

Pirates infielder Josh Harrison was added to the U.S. roster for the World Baseball Classic. He replaces Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter, who has tightness in his lower back. Gymnastics: Ragan Smith recovered from an uncharacteristic miscue on balance beam to post the top score on floor exercise and win the American Cup in Newark, N.J. She posted an all-around total of 56.099, nearly two points clear of Asuka Teramoto of Japan, in the first major international meet for the Americans since the Rio Olympics last summer.

Yul Moldauer, a sophomore at Oklahoma, pulled off an upset in the men’s event. He edged 2016 Olympic all-around silver medalist Oleg Verniaiev of the Ukraine. Moldauer’s all-around score of 85.931 was just clear of Verniaiev’s 85.699. Akash Modi, a senior at Stanford who was an alternate for the 2016 men’s Olympic team, finished third. Motor sports: Kyle Busch cruised to his second straight Atlanta Motor Speedway victory in NASCAR’s second-tier Xfinity Series. With a helping hand from lapped cars, the polewinner was able to hold off fellow Cup driver Brad Keselowski by 0.606 of a second.

Pole-sitter Christopher Bell held off Matt Crafton on a restart with two laps to go and completed a dominating win in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Atlanta. Tennis: Andy Murray captured his first title of the year and became the first British man to win the Dubai Tennis Championships in its 25-year history when he defeated Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-2. Skiing: Austria’s Marcel Hirscher locked up an unprecedented sixth straight overall World Cup title, winning a giant slalom at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, to give him an insurmountable lead of more than 500 points over his main rivals.

Lindsey Vonn was beaten by 0.07 of a second by Italy’s Sofia Goggia in a World Cup downhill race at Jeongseon, South Korea.
