Douglas A. Christie

Douglas A. Christie was born in San Mateo, CA; March 18, 1941 to Erma and Mel Christie. Erma and Mel were wonderful parents to their only child. Doug was often described as “hell on wheels” as he graduated from Abbots Jr. High in San Mateo in 1956. The family then moved to Menlo Park where Doug formed the Kahuna Hi Y Club for Friday night dances. He graduated from Menlo Atherton High School in 1960 and headed off to College of the Pacific; were he met his lifelong best friend Grant Johnson. After four years of adventure, Doug graduated with a BA in Business in 1965 from Oregon State.

It was at Oregon State that a second lifelong friend entered the picture. His name was Keith Simmons. Keith was a high school friend who transferre­d to Oregon State University. After graduation, Doug went to work at Harry Lee Plumbing and heating. This did not fit Doug’s interest so he applied for a management training course with Hartford Insurance Company were they paid him to go to school for nine months. Doug began his career in Oakland, CA as a property casualty underwrite­r. In 1968 Hartford offered him an opportunit­y to move to Sacramento to open a service office. It was at this point that his father offered him a job in his agency. The two formed Peninsula Insurance Associates and the business thrived.

In 1972, Doug partnered with Finn Jenssen to found Jenssen Scales. He proudly continued to serve on its board of directors through the years. In 1994, Doug founded Pacific Interstate Insurance Brokers along with four other partners. The business grew quite successful­ly and expanded into seven western States. He was very proud of PIIB and their accomplish­ments. He sold the business in 2005 but once again stayed on and served its board of directors.

Doug was married in 1966 to Diana. They were great business partners. Their avocation was raising and showing Morgan horses. They did 70 % of the training as they showed their horses on the A circuit, winning many blue ribbons and championsh­ips. They enjoyed traveling the world together later in life. Doug lost Diana to cancer after 48 years of marriage.

Doug’s life took an amazing turn and he met the second love of his life; Sally L. Christie, They were married on October 23, 2016 on the Grand Princess off the coast of California. Doug recently penned the following words; “I’m deeply in love with Sally and my love grows deeper every day!! Wow!!”

Doug is survived by; Sally L. Christie; Robert & Ryan MacDonald, Yvonne, Haley and Wes Thrasher, Meg and Mike Roath, Laurie and Bryant Jackson, Keenan and Ryland Frazier and Doris Meeker.

Services will be held at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park on March 13, 2017 at 11:30 AM.
