Robert “Bob” Elwood Hackman

April 5, 1942 - March 1, 2017

-

Our husband, father, grandfather and friend left us on March 01, 2017, in Sonoma CA. Bob, always with a warm smile and gentle heart, gave of himself with an incredible work ethic and generosity both of time and spirit.

Born in Lebanon PA, he graduated from Penn State University moving on to an MBA from Wharton School of Business. He married his high school sweetheart, Pat, who partnered with him through his university years. Upon graduating, the consulting and accounting firm Arthur Young (now Ernst and Young) recruited him for a posting in San Francisco. After 18 years, and full partnership with AY, he retained a wealth of friends moving on to other senior roles in finance, retiring after 13 years as CFO of Heller Ehrman law firm.

Bob and Pat moved from SF to their dream home in Sonoma CA in 2002. They were immediately embraced by the community where Bob devoted himself to Treasurer of Vintage House, Sonoma Hospital campaign and the AARP tax assist program, along with wine country living.

Bob was not one to sit still, except watching his beloved SF Giants. He would be out fly fishing, boating, biking, on the tennis court, skiing or keeping the yard in good order.

Bob battled Parkinson’s and Lewy Body dementia for many years. The family is especially grateful for the care he received from Sonoma Senior Living and Hospice by the Bay, and especially for the many friends who supported Bob and Pat through his illness.

Bob is survived by his dear wife of 52 years, Patricia, daughter Heather (Bill), son Christopher (Andrea) his brothers Don (Judy) and Mike (Susan), he was “Papa Bob” to 3 grandchildren Cole, Bailey and Penn, his nieces Sara, Emily, Elizabeth and Katie. His parents Dorothy and Elwood, plus his brother James predeceased him.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to Hospice by the Bay or a charity of your choice. A celebration of Bob’s life will be planned for later in the spring.
