Dick (Richard) Seashore

-

Dick Seashore died peacefully in Sausalito on February 12 at age 86. Memories of his lifelong sense of humor, boundless curiosity and adventurous spirit live on with his many friends and surviving family members - sister Marjorie Seashore, nieces Kim Seashore and Becky May, their families, and Doris Seashore.

Dick was a self-described nerd long before it became fashionable -- majoring in industrial engineering at Northwestern, designing reservations and jet overhaul systems for United Airlines in Denver, advising clients on the wonders of mainframes during 30 years as a systems engineer for IBM in San Francisco -- where he was the first to wear a blue shirt to work.

Always curious to try new things, he flew on the first Air France flight to Russia in 1959 and crewed on a friend’s sailboat in the North Sea in the 1970’s. In 2007, when the “T” light rail line debuted in San Francisco, he rode the entire length of the line to Bayview/Hunter’s Point on opening day.

A Sausalito resident for 50 years, Dick was a regular at the Stammtisch table at Fred’s, reading the newspaper and talking politics over breakfast. For years, he hosted political caucuses at his home before elections. After retiring in 1989, his favorite volunteer activity was working at the Sausalito ferry landing Kiosk introducing visitors to special places in Marin. A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be held at 3:00 pm on March 29 at Fred’s Place in Sausalito.
