Eddie Jack Polk of Bucerias, Mexico passed away January 24, 2017. Born July 14, 1938 in San Angelo, Texas, Ed was preceded in death by his parents,Faye Joyce and M.G. Polk, and by his brother, B. Frank Polk, and sister-in-law, Kathleen Polk. Ed is survived by his wife, Vicki Strang, children, Susan Adkins, Kevin, Karen and Maury, Vicki’s daughter, Eva Selig, former spouses Patricia Myers Polk and Carol Loyd Polk, and nine grandchild­ren. A graduate of Austin College and the University of Texas Law School, Ed practiced civil rights law in Dallas. Ed was a 1968 “Reggie”, and served as the Dallas Legal Services Executive Director before entering private practice with a close knit group of attorneys including Doug Larson, Ed Cloutman, Jim Johnston and Tom Dixon. Ed relocated to San Francisco in 1973 to join the Youth Law Center. He then started the Children’s Rights Group, an advocacy organizati­on working on child nutrition and health. Ed and Vicki later founded Handyperso­ns, a small, general contractin­g business. Ed loved the brilliant beauty and diversity of San Francisco, and it was his home for the next 43 years, before he and Vicki gave in to the lure of the warm temperatur­es and colorful surroundin­gs of the Pacific coast of Mexico. Ed and Vicki loved to travel and made many trips to Europe and more exotic destinatio­ns. Eddie Jack never met a stranger and greeted each day with optimism even as his health declined.
