Suspicious car: A motorist was detained by the Secret Service late Saturday night after driving a vehicle that appeared to be suspicious up to a checkpoint near the White House, authorities said. An “ongoing criminal investigation” was under way, a Secret Service spokesperson said Sunday. The vehicle was driven about 11:05 p.m. to a Secret Service checkpoint at 15th and E Street Northwest, and the driver was detained by Secret Service officers. It was not clear what caused the motorist to be detained or the vehicle to be declared suspicious.

Flint water: Residents of Flint, Mich., could still be a few years away from drinking unfiltered tap water as the city makes incremental progress on an ambitious time frame to replace old water service lines that leached lead into homes and businesses. The city has estimated that lines to 20,000 homes need to be replaced. As of last week, lines to fewer than 800 homes had been replaced with new copper pipe. The effort has been plagued by problems that include inaccurate records on the location of pipes and the type of material used in them. Funding for the project beyond this year is also uncertain.

Space X capsule: A SpaceX capsule is back on Earth with a full load of space station science samples. The Dragon cargo ship parachuted into the Pacific on Sunday off the Southern California coast. Astronauts set it free from the International Space Station 5½ hours earlier. The Dragon flew to the space station a month ago from Cape Canaveral. It took up more than 5,000 pounds of supplies and brought back just as much in completed experiments and used equipment. The space station is home to one Frenchman, two Americans and three Russians.

Adviser’s husband: President Trump has chosen the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway to head the civil division of the Justice Department, the Wall Street Journal reported. George Conway was chosen to head the office that has responsibility for defending the administration’s proposed travel ban and defending lawsuits filed against the administration, the newspaper reported. Conway is a partner at the New York law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.

Titanic expedition: Researchers are planning what they say is the first manned submersible expedition to the Titanic since 2005. OceanGate Expeditions recently announced that the sevenweek research mission will depart from Newfoundland, Canada, in May 2018. Experts from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts are also taking part. OceanGate of Everett, Wash., says the goal of the mission is to assess the condition of the wreck and document — but not collect — artifacts at the protected site. The doomed British luxury liner sank on April 15, 1912, after striking an iceberg on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City, killing more than 1,500 people.
