Trump rally clash: A scuffle broke out Saturday at Bolsa Chica State Beach (Orange County), where supporters of President Trump were marching when counter-protesters doused organizers with pepper spray, authorities said. The violence erupted when the march of about 2,000 people reached a group of about 30 counterprotesters, some of whom began spraying the irritant, said Capt. Kevin Pearsall of the California State Parks Police. Three people were arrested on suspicion of illegal use of pepper spray, he said. There were several other arrests, and two people suffered minor injuries. Counterprotesters said before the march began that they planned to try to stop the march’s progress with a “human wall.” Severe weather: Storms demolished mobile homes in Arkansas and a church in Louisiana as a menacing weather system threatened several states across the South and Midwest, authorities said. A tornado destroyed four mobile homes and damaged others near Cato, Ark., late Friday, the National Weather Service said. An apparent tornado also destroyed the Ringgold Assembly of God Church in Ringgold, La., late Friday. No injuries were reported there. On Saturday, storms rolled across Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, causing power outages.

Self-driving car crash: A selfdriving Uber sport utility vehicle was operating on its own when it was struck by another vehicle making a left turn at an intersection in Tempe, Ariz., where the company is testing autonomous vehicles, officials said. No one was seriously injured. Uber said its vehicles have been grounded as it investigates. Police said the self-driving SUV was obeying the law and the driver in the other car who didn’t yield was cited for a moving violation after the Friday night crash. Uber said Saturday there were no passengers in the self-driving Volvo SUV at the time of the crash, but there were two operators in the front.

Medic honored: Thousands of mourners packed a church Saturday in New York City and filled the streets outside for the funeral of an emergency worker who was struck by her own ambulance and killed after the vehicle was stolen. Yadira Arroyo, a 14-year veteran of the New York Fire Department and a mother of five sons, was responding with another emergency medical technician to a call Thursday when they were flagged down by a pedestrian about a theft, authorities say. Arroyo got out of the vehicle, and a man darted into the driver’s seat and ran over her, officials say. EMTs from around the city joined thousands of bystanders lining the streets to honor her. Jose Gonzalez, 25, has been charged with murder. Asylum granted: A blogger from Singapore who was jailed for his online posts blasting his government was granted asylum to remain in the United States. Amos Yee, 18, has been detained by immigration authorities since December when he was taken into custody at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. Attorneys said he could be released from a detention center as early as Monday. Judge Samuel Cole ruled Friday that Yee “has met his burden of showing that he suffered past persecution on account of his political opinion and has a well-founded fear of future persecution in Singapore.”
