August 6, 1938 - March 10, 2017

-

After many years battling lung disease, Judy Melvin passed away peacefully at Stanford Hospital surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in Green Bay Wisconsin. She then moved to Portola Valley, California with her parents and sister, Susan Ross. Just a few years after graduating from Castilleja High School, Judy met and married Paul F. Melvin Jr. in 1960. After they divorced in 1972, she continued to raise her two children Kathy and Robert in Menlo Park, where she lived for 57 years.

Her proudest accomplishments were her 2 children, 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She had a passion for music (especially jazz), she loved to travel and was an avid reader. She spent many wonderful years with her partner, Ed Williams, who passed away last year.

Judy will be remembered by family and friends for her sense of humor, kindness, and her love and devotion to dogs, including her current dog Millie.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Esquivel (Jose Esquivel), her son Robert Melvin, (Kelley Melvin), her granddaughters Rachel and Sarah Esquivel, Alexi Melvin, her grandson JP Esquivel, her great grandson Ryder Esquivel, and her sister Susan Ross (Ira Ross) and family.

The family wishes to extend a special heartfelt thanks to Dr. Stephen Ruoss and Dr. Patti Yanklowitz for their wonderful care of Judy these past years.

A Celebration of Life will take place some time in the upcoming months. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), or Beyond Type 1 (beyondtype1.org), as her granddaughter Alexi, lives with this disease.
