Nouvelle Vague gives ’80s hits French twist

- — Aidin Vaziri

Nouvelle Vague pays tribute to some of the most beloved hits of the ’80s with a French twist. The Parisian outfit is known for its cocktail lounge makeovers of classics such as Modern English’s “I Melt With You,” the Violent Femmes’ “Blister in the Sun” and Billy Idol’s “Dancing With Myself,” each imbued with bossa nova rhythms and sexy tropical bass lines.

The band returns with “I Could Be Happy,” its first album of new music in six years, featuring a mix of old favorites (Altered Images’ “I Could Be Happy,” the Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated”) and a handful of original songs. Nouvelle Vague performs at Bimbo’s 365 Club on Friday, March 31.
