On Jackie Robinson Day, a statue is unveiled in L.A.

A bronze statue of Jackie Robinson stealing home was unveiled at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, the first statue at the ballpark.

Its unveiling came on the 70th anniversar­y of Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier. Baseball celebrates an annual Jackie Robinson Day on April 15, when all players, coaches and managers wear his No. 42.

“Every advancemen­t in society has come from people standing on the shoulders of giants,” Dodgers president Stan Kasten said. “And in the history of baseball, in the history of our country, few people have stood taller than Jackie Robinson.”

A pregame ceremony included Frank Robinson, baseball’s first black manager; Dodgers Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully; Robinson’s widow, Rachel, 94; and children Sharon and David.

Oakland artist Branly Cadet sculpted the statue. Soccer: The NASL’s S.F. Deltas (1-0-2) played to a 0-0 draw at first-place Jacksonvil­le, gaining a point in their first-ever road game. The Deltas are second in the standings in the eight-team league.

San Francisco goalkeeper Romuald Peiser had two saves in the final five minutes to preserve the shutout.

In Europe, host Borussia Dortmund got an emotional 3-1 Bundesliga win over Eintracht Frankfurt four days after a bomb attack on the team bus . ... In the English Premier League, Son Heung-min matched a 31-year South Korean scoring record for a single European season as second-place Tottenham beat Bournemout­h 4-0 and trimmed Chelsea’s league lead to four points. Son’s 19th goal tied Cha Bum-kun’s total at Bayer Leverkusen in the 1985-86 season . ... In Spain, Lionel Messi scored twice to help second-place Barcelona beat Real Sociedad 3-2. League leader Real Madrid got two goals from Francisco “Isco” Alarcon to beat Sporting Gijon 3-2.

In MLS highlights, the Columbus Crew are alone in first place in the Eastern Conference after a 2-1 win over visiting Toronto FC . ... West leader Vancouver saw its eight-game home winning streak ended by Sporting Kansas City, which won 1-0 on a header by Dom Dwyer in the 53rd minute. Colleges: Cal scored 11 tries and held Clemson scoreless until the 80th minute to defeat the host Tigers 71-5 in the quarterfin­als of the Penn Mutual Varsity Cup Rugby Championsh­ip. The Bears (15-3) will host a semifinal at 1 p.m. Saturday against Penn State.

Lorenzo Romar has been named associate head basketball coach at Arizona, joining Sean Miller’s staff a month after Romar was fired as head coach at Washington.

In baseball, Max Flower’s ninth-inning sacrifice fly scored Tanner Dodson and Cal (16-17, 8-7 Pac-12) came back from a 6-1 deficit to beat host Utah 8-7 . ... Matt Winaker hit a three-run, go-ahead homer in the eighth for No. 18 Stanford (19-12, 5-7 Pac-12), but visiting UCLA came back to win 7-6 in 10 innings. Horse racing: Classic Empire locked up a Kentucky Derby bid with a come-from-well-behind win in the $1 million Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park. Tennis: Fourth-seeded Steve Johnson beat topseeded Jack Sock 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in an all-American semifinal at the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championsh­ip in Houston. Johnson will face Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil, a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 winner over American Ernesto Escobedo, for the title.
