Jean Matthias Hall, 95, of Saratoga, CA, formerly of San Francisco, CA, died peacefully in her sleep on April 20, 2017, at Brookdale Senior Living Community.

Born March 13, 1922 in Vallejo, CA, Jean’s family soon moved to Angel Island in San Francisco Bay where she enjoyed equestrian riding amongst the locations’ beautiful setting. Her education began in a oneroom schoolhous­e on Angel Island. She later commuted daily by Army boat from Angel Island to spend her middle school years at Grant School in Pacific Heights followed by attendance at Galileo High School. This provided her the opportunit­y to watch the Golden Gate Bridge’s daily constructi­on progress. She graduated from UC Berkeley in 1943 with a BA in Social Welfare. Most of all, Jean loved San Francisco where she worked as a social worker at Travelers Aid and met her future husband, Ensign Walter D. Hall, whom she married in 1948. Jean joined her husband, Walter, at various stations throughout his career as a Naval officer. Jean, mother of four, was a homemaker and active in the Saratoga Garden Club, Saratoga Foothill Club and Newcomers of Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and Saratoga while living in Saratoga.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, George and Ida Matthias of San Francisco, CA, and sisters, Dorthea Keliher, Clara May Martin and Easley Cameron and granddaugh­ter, Kristi Johnson.

Jean is survived by her husband, Walter Hall, of Saratoga, CA, children, Marty Todd, of Walnut Creek, CA , Bill (Leslie) Hall of Lake Bluff, IL, Connie Hall of San Jose, CA and Terry Hall of Santa Cruz, CA. Jean also leaves behind grandchild­ren, Derek (Deanna) Johnson of Apex, NC, Laura (Scott) Andron of Orinda, CA, Matt Todd of San Francisco, CA, Nate Hall of Boston, MA, Katrina Hall of Lake Bluff, IL and Ben Bloch of San Francisco, CA, along with six great grandchild­ren.

Private services are to be held at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church with burial at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga, CA.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Ultimate Home Care for their support and care to Jean.
