Barbara Dickie, better known as Joan Dickie, was born to Marcel and Alice Bouysou in San Francisco, CA. She graduated from San Jose State and took Masters courses and UC Berkeley. She was married to Walter Murray Dickie Jr. in 1959 until his death in 1999. Joan moved to Piedmont from Berkeley in 1965 and has been a Piedmont resident ever since then. Joan was a wonderful loving mother and wife who is survived by her three sons, Walter Murray Dickie III of Portland, OR, Stephen Alexander Dickie of Lodi, CA, and Andrew Johnson Dickie, of Rio Vista, CA. She had two grandchildren, Valerie Dickie, the daughter of Walter and Cassandra Dickie, the daughter of Stephen.

Joan was a very hard working and compassionate woman. She was active with many charities throughout her life. She worked for fund raising for the Oakland Museum of California, March of Dimes, Bay Area Rescue Mission, Piedmont Beautification Foundation, Oakland Symphony Guild and Piedmont Education Foundation. She was on the Board of Directors for Children’s Hospital of Oakland and for Easter Seals.

Joan had a large network of very close friends in Piedmont and throughout the Bay Area. She loved tennis, golf and bridge. After her children were grown, she and her husband traveled all over the world. Her favorite local places were Carmel and Lake Tahoe.

She will be dearly missed by all of her many friends and family. We were all fortunate to have known her, as she enriched all of our lives.

Joan’s funeral service will be with her immediate family. A celebration of life will be held on May 5th at 227 Crocker Avenue, Piedmont, between 12pm and 3pm. All friends that knew her are welcome to attend.
