Reverend John K. Ring

Father John Ring died in his sleep on the morning of May 5, 2017.

The son of John and Mary (Murphy) Ring, Fr. Ring grew up in the Sunset District of San Francisco. He went to St. Anne’s Parish grammar school and then entered St. Joseph’s College and St. Patrick’s Seminary as he prepared to serve as a priest for the Archdioces­e of San Francisco. He was ordained on June 13, 1961 and went on to serve as an Assistant Pastor at Most Holy Redeemer Parish in San Francisco, at St. Patrick’s Parish in Larkspur, St. Matthew’s Parish in San Mateo and St. Bridget’s Parish in San Francisco. In 1981, he was appointed Pastor of Mater Dolorosa Parish in South San Francisco and then in 1987 as Pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in San Francisco. He served the parishione­rs of St. Vincent’s until his retirement in 2011. For the past years, he has lived and served at The Heritage in San Francisco.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his loving sister Kathleen Patricia Corby. He is survived by his brother, Father Vincent Ring and his brother-in- law, Joseph Corby. In his heart, he had great love for his three nieces, Eileen, Kathy and JoAnn plus his nephew, Joseph. As the son of Irish born parents, he was always grateful for his nephew Daniel and his numerous cousins and friends.

A Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9th, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 2320 Green Street, San Francisco. The Mass of the Resurrecti­on will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10th. at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
