Slain doctors: Two Boston doctors found dead inside the penthouse of a luxury condominium building most likely knew their killer, police said. Dr. Lina Bolanos and Dr. Richard Field were found dead late Friday. Investigators have not said how the couple were killed or provided a motive in the case. Police had gone to the building on a report of a man with a gun. The suspect opened fire when officers confronted him at the door. Officers fired back and hit the man several times, police said. Bampumim Teixeira, 30, was hospitalized. His arraignment is set for Monday. Bolanos, 38, and Field, 49, were both anesthesiologists. The two were engaged to be married.

Deadly crash: Four people in a car were killed in a head-on collision Sunday with a Chicago city bus, police said. Police spokeswoman Officer Michelle Tannehill said the car was speeding and hit a parked car. The car’s driver then lost control and the vehicle collided with a Chicago Transit Authority bus, she said. Fire Department Commander Curtis Hudson said five people on the bus were taken to hospitals with non-lifethreatening injuries.

Pump prices: The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline dropped 5 cents nationally over the past two weeks to $2.41, industry analyst Trilby Lundberg reported Sunday. The national average is 14 cents a gallon above the price a year ago. Gas in San Francisco was the costliest among the cities surveyed at $3.02 a gallon. The lowest price was in Tulsa, Okla., at $2.02.

Alligator bite: An alligator bit a 10year-old girl on the leg as she sat in shallow lake waters at a park in Orlando, authorities said. The girl was with her family at Moss Park when she was bitten Saturday, said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Chad Weber. Weber said she was sitting in water roughly 2 feet deep when the 8-foot-9-inch gator bit her on her knee and calf. “She had puncture wounds but I don’t think they’re life threatening,” Weber told the Orlando Sentinel. Authorities trapped the alligator. There have been 388 alligator bites on people in Florida since 1948, including 24 fatalities, according to the wildlife commission.

Sanctuary bill: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a law focusing on sanctuary cities Sunday that lets police ask about a person’s immigration status and threatens sheriffs with jail if they don’t cooperate with federal authorities. Abbott, a Republican, took the unusual step of signing the bill on a Facebook live stream with no public advance notice. The bill cleared a final hurdle last week in the Republican-controlled Legislature over objections from Democrats and immigrant rights supporters. They call it a “show me your papers” measure that will be used to discriminate against Latinos. Every major police chief in Texas opposed the bill. Republicans say it is needed to ensure local jails honor requests from federal officials to keep dangerous offenders behind bars.
