Mike Hutchison passed away April 20th, 2017 at the age of 55 shortly after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. Raised in San Carlos, he attended St. Charles Church, Clifford Middle School and San Carlos High School. After graduating from college, he began working at Yamas Company in the environmental control panel department for ten years. His love for San Francisco and all it represented drew him to work in the city for the last 27 years starting as a stationary engineer and finally as a chief engineer.

He loved to mentor those in his trade and truly felt he had another family with those he worked with and his fellow “brothers and sisters” of Local 39.

When Mike was 18 he met his wife Martha and five years later they married in 1985. Together they had two beautiful daughters. He was a hands on father and played a major role in their lives. Couching their basketball teams, teaching them how to fish, “not throw balls like a girl”, supporting their dreams and celebrating their accomplishments.

Mike had a passion for fishing, houseboat trips on Lake Shasta, visiting Hawaii, watching their majestic sunsets and listening daily to their beautiful music. He enjoyed barbequing, cross word puzzles, watching and going to Giants games, gardening, eating any form of ice cream and watching sports on TV, as well as cooking shows, history channel, Survivor and Me TV.

He has now been reunited with those who have passed before him especially his parents, Bill and Jean Hutchison and niece Alanna Walker. Mike was a loving husband to Martha for almost 32 years and a wonderful father to his daughters Sara Hutchison Dove (Nick Dove) and Amanda Hutchison. He also leaves behind his sisters who he loved dearly. Judy (Shawn) his niece/nephew Jessica (Nick) and Daniel and other sister Deean (Paul) with his nieces Hannah and Jordan.

We will always remember his smile, laughter, jokes, BBQ talent, positive attitude, and his love for life, family and friends. He made a difference in the lives of many. He will be missed greatly but never forgotten for he will remain in our hearts through the many beautiful memories he left with each of us.

A vigil is being held May 11th 7pm at Redwood Chapel, Redwood City. The funeral is May 12th 10am at St. Raymond’s church Menlo Park.
