Astros 1, Tigers 0

HOUSTON — The Astros used a group effort to make up for what they hope is the one start lefthander Dallas Keuchel will miss with a pinched nerve in his neck.

Brad Peacock, right, and three relievers combined for a one-hitter as Houston beat the Tigers 1-0 on Monday night.

Iin his first start since September, Peacock allowed the lone hit — a single by Mikie Mahtook with one out in the third — and struck out eight in 41⁄3 innings. He was lifted after walking Tyler Collins in the fifth.

“That was an excellent effort and production,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “Everything you could ask for going into the game ... that’s a pretty special performance out of him and exactly what we needed.”

Chris Devenski replaced Peacock and pitched 22⁄3 innings for the win before Will Harris pitched a scoreless eighth. Ken Giles struck out two in the ninth for his 12th save.

Detroit manager Brad Ausmus dismissed the notion that his team arriving at its hotel around 5 a.m. Monday had anything to do with the outcome.

“I don’t think it was an effect today,” Ausmus said. “I just thought it had more to do with their pitching.”
