Arsenal’s Wenger wins record 7th FA Cup

-

Arsene Wenger’s turbulent season ended with a third FA Cup success in four seasons after Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 to deny the English Premier League champion a double on Saturday.

Aaron Ramsey scored the match-winner, just as in the 2014 final, restoring Arsenal’s lead in the 79th minute shortly after Diego Costa leveled for 10-man Chelsea at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Arsenal turned in the type of tenacious display lacking so often, and against a team that was so commanding in the Premier League in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge. And it might just be enough to stem the tide of protests against Wenger, the 67-year-old manager whose contract is up.

“For once I have kept my (winner’s) medal,” said Wenger, who usually gives them away to staff members, after winning a record 7th FA Cup. “So that means it’s a special night for me.”

Before the match, Prince William laid a wreath on the pitch before a minute’s silence to honor the victims of the Manchester bombing. Security was intensified at the 90,000capacity national stadium.
