Daly’s have-a-life example for Tiger

You know what Tiger Woods needs right now, besides toothpicks to keep his eyes open? A life coach.

You know who would be the ideal coach? John Daly. Seriously.

A decade ago, those two disparate souls had a bond. Not exactly a friendship, but a mutual appreciation between the planet’s two most popular golfers.

Then in ’05, Daly fell off the face of the golf earth after a playoff loss to Woods in a tournament in San Francisco, and their rivalry/bond died.

Now, I believe Daly could help Woods, arrested on a DUI charge early Monday morning in Florida.

Daly is not your typical role model. He has been unclean and unsober since 2013, when he gave up on giving up booze. In an interview a year ago as he turned 50, Daly said he drinks in moderation. He also smokes, in the moderation of an oldWest locomotive.

He had a weight problem a couple of years ago. He got so skinny after lap-band surgery that he couldn’t rest his arm on his beer gut when putting, so he beefed back up to 250 pounds.

Daly has what Woods seems to be searching for: a life. A life with fun and meaning, a female companion, and even good golf. Fat old John won a Champions tournament this month, the Insperity. Tiger hasn’t won anything in years, unless you count his victory in the “Scariest Police Mug Shot” contest.

Fitness is great, Daly believes, but not for golfers. He saw Tiger, and now Rory McIlroy, get all Hulked-up, then break down physically. Daly tried weight lifting, liked how he looked, but, “You fall in love with it.” He gave it up when the new muscles messed up the old golf swing.

Daly’s life-coach message to Tiger would be, “Don’t let golf consume you.” Daly looks at the top golfers and, as he recently said, “It would be cool to see some of those guys cut up a bit and have some fun.”

If you see Daly’s tour bus parked in Woods’ driveway, you’ll know there’s hope for Tiger.
