Two weeks after pro golfer Padraig Harrington returned from neck surgery, he was struck in the left elbow by the club of an amateur he was teaching at a clinic.

Harrington required six deep stitches because he said the club hit him so flush that it cut into the bursa sac around the joint. He had to withdraw from the PGA Tour’s FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, and hopes to be out only two weeks. WNBA: Elena Delle Donne scored 23 points to help the visiting Washington Mystics win their fifth straight with a 101-89 victory over the Dallas Wings. Skylar Diggins-Smith had 23 points and seven assists for Dallas . ... Breanna Stewart scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help the visiting Seattle Storm beat San Antonio 85-76, keeping the Stars winless. Swimming: Australian Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers has had successful surgery on his heart. The 18-year-old Chalmers, who won the 100-meter freestyle at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro last year, withdrew from the upcoming world championsh­ips in order to undergo surgery for a worsening heart condition. Courts: Olympic silver medalist Danny Harris has been charged with contacting a teenage girl to commit a sex crime while he was a high school track and field coach in San Gabriel (Los Angeles County). Harris, 51, was charged with six counts of contacting a minor for sexual offense, child abuse and child annoyance. Harris placed second behind Edwin Moses in the 400-meter hurdles at the 1984 Olympics.

Three Michigan State football players were charged with criminal sexual conduct after a woman said she was raped and forced to perform oral sex in the bathroom of a campus apartment during a party in January. John King, 19, Demetric Vance, 20, and Donnie Corley Jr., 19, were dismissed from the team.
