Cabrera Bello joins the crowd atop leaderboard

-

Rafa Cabrera Bello shot a 5-under-par 65 on Saturday to join Ben Crane and Stewart Cink in a threeway tie for the lead after three rounds at the St. Jude Classic in Memphis.

Cabrera Bello, a 33year-old from Spain, has four international victories, but has not won on the PGA Tour. He’s 30th in the world golf ranking.

Crane shot a 68, and Cink had a 69 to tie Cabrera Bello at 9-under 201.

Cink, 44, gradually has improved his game since missing several weeks last year to help care for his wife Lisa, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. He qualified for the U.S. Open on Monday in Ohio and has had three solid rounds at the TPC Southwind course to contend for his first victory since winning the 2009 British Open.

Crane won the St. Jude Classic in 2014.

Luke List and Chad Campbell each shot a 66. They are one stroke behind the leaders. List made two eagles on the back nine.

Campbell, who recently turned 43, hasn’t won a tournament since the 2007 Viking Classic.

Chez Reavie, Charl Schwartzel and Sebastian Muñoz started the third round with a one shot lead over Cink, but all three struggled. Reavie is still in contention after shooting a 72 and is tied with Matt Jones and Kevin Chappell at 7-under, two shots behind the leaders.

Schwartzel shot a 74 and Muñoz a 75. LPGA Tour: Lexi Thompson shot a 67 for a 17-under 199 total and a one-stroke lead after the third round of the Manulife LPGA Classic in Cambridge, Ontario.

Fellow American Lindy Duncan was in second after a 67, followed by South Korea’s In Gee Chun (68) another shot back. Canada’s Alena Sharp (70), who was in a three-way tie for the lead with Thompson and South Korea’s Hyo Joo Kim, fell into a tie for fourth with world No. 2 Ariya Jutanugarn (65) of Thailand. Champions Tour: Brandt Jobe shot a sixunder 66 to take a share of the lead following the second round in Des Moines, Iowa. Jobe and Glen Day (67) will enter Sunday’s final round at 11-under 133, two strokes ahead of Kevin Sutherland. European Tour: Chilean Felipe Aguilar retained a two-stroke lead after the third round of the Lyoness Open in Atzenbrugg, Austria. Aguilar had a three-stroke advantage but dropped a shot on the 18th to finish level par and remain 9-under for the tournament.
