Discipline follows Colorado abuse case

Three University of Colorado officials, including its chancellor and football coach, were disciplined for their handling of domestic-violence allegations against a former assistant coach.

Chancellor Phil DiStefano will serve a 10-day suspension and athletic director Rich George and head football coach Mike MacIntyre, the former San Jose State coach, must make $100,000 donations to domestic-violence causes.

The college’s Board of Regents also ordered that all three receive letters of reprimand.

A woman who has accused former assistant coach Joe Tumpkin of domestic violence contends the school knew of the abuse and took measures to hide it. An independent investigation determined mistakes were made by the school, but there was no intent to cover up or break the law.

President Trump honored Clemson University’s NCAA champion football team, calling its victory a title “for the ages.” The Tigers won the national championship in January with a 35-31 victory over Alabama. Trump says it was one of the greatest games he ever watched. College baseball: JJ Schwarz hit a towering, two-run homer and Tyler Dyson followed with five scoreless innings of relief and Florida (46-18) threw a 3-0 shutout at visiting Wake Forest (43-19) to earn the final spot in the College World Series. Right-hander Alex Faedo, selected by Detroit with the 18th overall pick in the MLB draft early in the game, pitched the final two innings for his first career save.

In a game that ended at 1:36 a.m. in Louisiana, Kramer Robertson had three hits and Caleb Gilbert pitched five-plus innings of scoreless middle relief to help host LSU (48-17) clinch its 18th CWS berth with a 14-4 win over Mississippi State (40-27).

Oklahoma head coach Pete Hughes resigned. He was 128107-1 in four seasons in Norman. College basketball: Former Butler guard LaVall Jordan will become the school’s head coach. Jordan, 38, replaces Chris Holtmann, now at Ohio State.
