Paul, 89, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 8, 2017.

Paul’s parent immigrated from Greece and he was born and raised in San Francisco. After graduating from high school, Paul worked with his father in the family owned Athens Candy and Ice Cream Shop in North Beach. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of San Francisco. In 1963 he met and fell in love with his wife, Sophia. A few months after meeting, Paul took his first airplane flight to Wisconsin to ask for her hand in marriage. They were married August 17, 1963 and settled in San Rafael.

Paul proudly worked in the Auditor Controller’s office at the County of Marin for 34 years.

Paul was an active member of the Native Sons, Masons, Elks, Turtles and AHEPA. He was passionate about the American Hellenic Educationa­l Progressiv­e Associatio­n (AHEPA). As a leader in the AHEPA organizati­on, he was elected to several positions at the Chapter, District and Supreme Lodge level. He served as Secretary/Treasurer for the San Francisco chapter for over 40 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sophia. His daughters, Mary Kay Stratigos (Spiro), and their children Niko and Sophia, and daughter Irene Starling (Eric), their children Alex, James and Alena and his sister Garifalia Zeissig. He will be remembered for his smile, gentle way, love of family and Hellenism.

Friends and family are invited to Trisagion Services at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14th and Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 15th. All services will take place at the Nativity of Christ Greek Orthodox Church located at 1110 Highland Drive in Novato. Interment will be at Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Nativity of Christ Church in memory of Paul.
