John Lubimir

1924 - 2017

-

John was born in San Francisco on July 15, 1924, to Anton and Teresa Lubimir and remained a lifelong resident. After graduating from Mission High School, he joined the Southern Pacific Railroad as a clerk but was drafted shortly thereafter and spent 2 years in the Army. John returned to the SP where he worked in a sales capacity for another 35 years. His sales career in the rail industry spanned 70+ years, including positions with MCS, Pacer Global and most recently as VP of Sales for the SF office of Cornerstone Systems, where continued to work until his accident. His network of contacts and friends in the transportation industry was legendary. John’s wry, offbeat sense of humor and laid-back approach belied a serious commitment to his customers, most of whom became friends. He was deeply loved and respected by customers, friends and family alike.

John was a member of the Mission Masonic Lodge #169, the Shriners and a lifetime member of the Sportsman Yacht Club in the Delta, where he enjoyed boating for over 50 years. He was also an active member of the Slavonic Mutual Benevolence Society, San Francisco’s Croatian heritage club.

He is survived by his brother Anton and sisterin-law Mildred, his nephew John, his nieces Tina, Karen and nine great nephews and nieces.
