CHICAGO — Daniel Gossett didn’t have it easy most of his outing Saturday. His teammates made three errors behind him and he had to pitch out of trouble several times.

Nevertheless, Gossett allowed just two runs, both unearned, in earning his first big-league win. He escaped a two-on, no-outs jam in the fifth, striking out Melky Cabrera and getting Jose Abreu to fly out and Avisail Garcia to pop up. Gossett also worked around a leadoff double and an A’s error in the sixth.

“A special experience, and to get out of there with my

first win was just the icing on the cake,” Gossett said.

“Most impressive thing were the jams he had to get out of,” manager Bob Melvin said. “Those kind of things go a long way for a young pitcher to know he can get in a little bit of trouble and get the meat of the order out.”

Gossett was called up June 14 and was 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA in his first two starts.

Pinder to DL, Lowrie out: The A’s were already down

three infielders going into Saturday’s game after Chad Pinder was placed on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain. Then second baseman Jed Lowrie was scratched before the game with a slight right knee sprain incurred on an awkward swing in his second at-bat Friday.

Lowrie said he is likely to be out at least through Monday’s off day, and Pinder and Melvin are hopeful that Pinder misses minimal time. Pinder has not yet had an MRI exam, so the team doesn’t know what grade his strain is.

Third baseman Matt Chapman was in the hospital for a fourth day while receiving intraveneous treatment for a left knee infection, and Marcus Semien played his second rehab game with Class A Stockton on Saturday night, going 3-for-5 with a double and homer.
