Hanif Wondir’s to-do list

-

Barmel: Nightlife and quaint Carmel aren’t exactly synonymous. But one of the liveliest dance floors in the entire county belongs to Barmel. Touring acts such as the Waymores and No New Friends visit the tiny stage constantly, but the most dancing happens with Wondir on the wheels of steel. San Carlos between Seventh and Ocean, Carmel-by-theSea. (831) 626-3400. 4 p.m.-2 a.m. Monday-Friday, from 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

Dennis the Menace Park: The playland named for the Hank Ketcham comic strip draws youngsters to its ivy maze, swaying suspension bridge, tunnels and down-home snack bar. 777 Pearl St., Monterey. 10 a.m.-dusk daily (closed Tuesdays during school year).

Fort Ord Dunes State Park: “It’s a semi-secret spot, never really crowded, even though it’s one of the more beautiful beaches — very clean, with dramatic dunes and paragliders in the sky,” Wondir says. “You can walk and walk and not see anybody for a long time.” Beach Range Road, Marina. 8 a.m.-dusk.

Carmel Hat Co.: The rare place where you see old golfers and young hipsters shopping for the same Kangols and Goorin Bros. hats. It’s old school, dripping with style. “Like going record shopping,” Wondir says. “You can sort through and find something you haven’t seen.” Doud Arcade on Ocean Avenue, Carmel-bythe-Sea. (831) 625-9510. 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. www.thecarmel hatcompany.com

Post No Bills Craft Beer House: “It’s like Cheers, only with way better beers.” Taps deliver small-batch sours, nitros, ciders, big stouts, clever pilsners and atypical IPAs around a U-shaped stainless steel bar. Walls are decorated with four graffiti-style pieces, and concert and movie posters, which inspired the name. 600 Ortiz Ave., Sand City. (831) 324-4667. 3-11:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 1-11:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 1-10 p.m. Sunday, www.postnobills.net
