Russia is cleared to do drug tests

The World Anti-Doping Agency has partly restored drug-testing duties to the Russian anti-doping agency.

RUSADA was suspended in 2015 when its staff was accused of helping to cover up drug use, but will now have wide-ranging authority over testing.

After intense negotiatio­ns and sweeping personnel changes at the Russian agency, WADA said it has allowed RUSADA to “plan and coordinate” drug testing under the supervisio­n of British agency UKAD, which has overseen testing in Russia during the national anti-doping body’s suspension. Tennis: Andy Murray has withdrawn from an exhibition match in London because of a sore hip, less than a week before the start of Wimbledon. Cycling: Andre Cardoso of Portugal, one of Alberto Contador’s key support riders, has failed a doping test and been suspended from the TrekSegafr­edo team four days before he was slated to start the Tour de France. Basketball: Elena Delle Donne scored 25 points, Kristi Toliver made three of host Washington’s 10 three-pointers, and the Mystics beat the Seattle Storm 100-70 . ... Nneka Ogwumike scored 17 of her 21 points in the first half to help the Los Angeles Sparks beat the host Connecticu­t Sun 87-79 for their six straight win. Obituary: The New York Mets said former pitcher Anthony Young has died at age 51. Young set a major-league record with 27 straight losses in the early 1990s. He told former teammates this spring that he had a brain tumor.
