Janette Schulte, beloved sister and mother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, the 21st of June in Sacramento CA. She is survived by two of her three children, Matthew Schulte and AnaLisa Pearce; her son-in-law Michael Pearce; her brother Eric Lundblad; her sister Vicki Lundblad and her brother-in-law Lou Zumstein, plus many members of her extended family.

Jan was a third-generation Californian: she was born and raised, along with her sister and brother, in El Cerrito, California, as the daughter of John Ludvig Lundblad and Nancy June Fredericks, themselves native Californians. A happy childhood, full of family celebrations with her cousins, Wednesday potluck dinners at the Arlington church, Sunday “family sails” on the San Joachim river, epic summer vacations at Lake Tahoe, and yearly family picnics with the Fredericks side of the family.

Like her mother, sister and brother, Jan attended UC Berkeley, graduating with honors with a degree in child psychology in 1976 … but for Jan, the center of her life was her three children, Matthew, Ana-Lisa and Nicholas. Jan loved every aspect of family life and raising children: home made meals, going to family picnics, singing in the church choir, but most of all, the holidays – every single holiday was an event for Jan. She was also a dedicated care-provider for her youngest son, Nicholas, who was profoundly disabled. She was insistent that he live at home, rather than in an institution, to allow him to live his life as a member of their community. Jan’s dedication to disabled children also motivated her to form the first support group (way back in the 1980’s) in Sacramento for the parents of special needs children.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jan’s life at a memorial service and reception on Thursday, June 29 at 1 pm, at Florin United Methodist Church, 7560 Florin Rd in Sacramento. Visitation for Jan will be held from 4 to 8 pm, this coming Wednesday June 28, at East Lawn Elk Grove Memorial Park, 9189 East Stockton Boulevard in Elk Grove.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jan’s name to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI); contact information for NAMI California is http://namica.org.
