Francona out at least for a few more games

-

Cleveland manager Terry Francona will miss at least a few more games as doctors try to pinpoint his medical issues.

Francona remained at the Cleveland Clinic undergoing tests to determine what has made him lightheaded and increased his heart rate several times in the past month. Francona, 58, was admitted to the hospital Tuesday.

At this point, it’s unclear when he’ll be discharged or if he’ll be able to manage the American League All-Star team next week.

Team President Chris Antonetti said it’s possible Francona could be sidelined for the remainder of Cleveland’s homestand before the AllStar break.

“It’s just at this point narrowing down what is the specific thing causing the symptoms and how do they correct that,” Antonetti said. Derby wrangling: Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez says criticism by Tampa Bay’s Logan Morrison of Sanchez’s Home Run Derby invitation is misplaced.

“That’s something that I have no control of,” Sanchez said through an interpreter. “They gave me a call, basically gave me an invitation.”

Morrison, who did not get an invitation to the contest despite having 24 home runs, told the Tampa Bay Times on Tuesday that Sanchez shouldn’t be in the Derby. Sanchez, who missed 21 games with a strained biceps, is hitting .294 with 13 homers.

Morrison said Wednesday that his comments weren’t about Sanchez.

“People can read it and say he’s jealous of Gary because he got picked, but it’s not about that,” Morrison said. “Eric Thames (23 homers) got slighted, too. How is that guy not in the Home Run Derby for the National League? It’s a flawed system.” Briefly: Minnesota placed left-hander Hector Santiago on the 10-day disabled list because of upper back pain. He’s 4-8 with a 5.63 ERA this season . ... The Angels placed reliever Huston Street on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right groin.
