Nancy Witter Hodgkinson passed away peacefully in Newport Beach, California at age 63 in the comfort of her family.

Nancy Tay Witter was born on January 12, 1955 at Samuel Merritt Hospital in Oakland, California to Thomas and Barbara Witter. She and her four siblings, Jane Delanoy, Susan Phillips, Barbara Harden, and Thomas Witter were raised at 125 Wildwood Gardens in Piedmont, California.

Nancy’s fondest childhood memories consisted of riding her favorite horse, Someday Soon and skiing with her friends and family at the Witter Ski House in Sugar Bowl. While at Piedmont High School, Nancy was a standout student athlete, member of the undefeated “Volley High” Varsity Tennis Team, and an active member of the BH Club. In 1973 Nancy attended the University of California, Berkeley, a long standing family tradition that saw more than five generations of Witters. She studied economics and was a member of Delta Gamma sorority.

Following graduation, Nancy joined IBM and spent more than 20 years as a top sales executive selling POS systems to some of the largest national chains in America. Nancy retired from IBM in 1992 to raise her four children. In later years, she partnered with her husband at Kidder Peabody, (UBS Wealth Management) offices in San Francisco and also had success building homes in Orange County.

In 1986, Nancy married Richard Hodgkinson and together they raised two girls and two boys in her beloved childhood home at 125 Wildwood Gardens. The family enjoyed many of the same activities as the Witter household and were often spotted playing tennis, swimming and lunching on the patio at Claremont Country Club. She cherished her time with the family and was happiest playing dominoes near the fireplace after family dinners. She also loved gardening and was an enthusiastic President of the Piedmont Beautification Foundation and member of the Piedmont Garden Club.

Nancy was a loving and devoted person who always put her family and friends first. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband, Richard, and their four children: Lindsay, Laura, John and Jeffrey. The family will host a celebration of life at Claremont Country Club in Oakland on August, 15th, 2017 at 1 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s honor to Piedmont Garden Club.
