1 Senator targeted: There was a break-in over the weekend at the Las Vegas office of Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., a Republican who is a critical swing vote on the GOP health care bill. Police confirmed the breakin occurred Saturday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. A “threatening note” was also left at the office, according to 8 News Now, citing an anonymous source. A spokeswoman for Heller said she could not comment because of an ongoing investigation. Heller has been under tremendous pressure from both the left and the right on his vote on the health bill. Last month, he came out against an earlier iteration of the plan.

2 Hospital review: Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin has removed two top officials at New Hampshire’s only veterans hospital and has ordered a review of the facility starting Monday amid allegations of “dangerously substandard care.” The Boston Globe reported that 11 physicians and medical employees alleged the Manchester VA Medical Center was endangering patients. They described a fly-infested operating room, surgical instruments that weren’t always sterilized and patients whose conditions were ignored or weren’t treated properly. Following the newspaper report, Shulkin removed hospital Director Danielle Ocker and Chief of Staff James Schlosser. They said patient safety was not compromised.

3 Ohio shooting: A woman who claimed to have lost her baby during a deadly shooting at her gender reveal party in suburban Cincinnati was not pregnant, police said Monday. Colerain Township Police Chief Mark Denney did not say why the woman claimed to be pregnant. The woman had told local media that she lost her unborn child after she was wounded in the leg. Police said their investigation is being impeded by “leads known to be lies” that are wasting time. “From the very beginning of this investigation, we have met significant resistance that is uncommon from victims of crime wanting a resolution,” police said in a statement. One person was killed and eight people were wounded when two men opened fire July 8 inside a home. 4 Lake rescue: The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people from a capsized sailboat on Lake Michigan during the annual Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac Island, Mich. The agency said the four were clinging to the vessel’s hull and only two were wearing life jackets when rescued Sunday north of Milwaukee. Organizers say about 80 of the nearly 300 boats in the race withdrew — many due to rough weather.

5 Old graduate: A Philadelphia man has finally received his high school diploma — at 97 years old. Charles Leuzzi left high school in his junior year and fought in World War II. His heroism earned him two Purple Hearts and four Bronze Star medals. On Sunday, the School District of Philadelphia gave him his honorary diploma. When asked about going to college, Leuzzi says he might as well. “I don’t have anything else to do,” he said.
