Don’t let Curry’s great round bother you

Beating with heat with cool thoughts, per Satchel Paige: “If your stomach disputes you, lie down and pacify it with cool thoughts.”...

Stephen Curry makes his Web.com Tour debut in two weeks. Worst-case scenario for the Warriors is Curry playing well and contracting full-blown Golf Fever. Curry must be jacked after his blazing Sunday round (68) at the American Century Championship at Tahoe, best round in the 89-player field. Remember Mookie Blaylock skipping a Warriors practice to play golf ?

Defending S.F.’s native son: Joe DiMaggio’s record for homers by a Yankees rookie (29 in ’36) was broken by Aaron Judge. In ’36, Yankee Stadium was 395 feet to left, 460 to left-center (Death Valley), 490(!) to center. Judge’s Yankee Stadium is 318399-408. And Joltin’ Joe wasn’t joltin’ today’s rocket ball. And DiMaggio was 21, Judge is 25.

Odd sight on the range at the Tahoe tourney: Lefty quarterback Steve Young swinging righty, next to righty QB Jared Goff swinging lefty. Young plays golf better than Goff. Young (97-92-90) finished 78th in the 89-player field, Goff (104-10396) 87th. Both finished behind Larry the Cable Guy (76th), who sprays balls like the painter at the Titleist factory.

Dead last at Tahoe: Charles Barkley (105-103-107). He has a blast, but caddie Chris Detsch told me Sir Charles sometimes grimaces at whispers from the gallery about his size and swing. “They think we can’t hear ’em, but you can hear everything.”

Baseball sage Bruce Jenkins supports the 20-second pitch clock, but I must quibble with his suggestion to turn off the clock in the World Series. Freed from bondage, pitchers and hitters would stage 10-minute duels. You don’t shut off the 24-second clock in the NBA Finals.

Over-under on how long it took Bob Myers to nix the Pacers’ offer of Paul George for Klay Thompson: Two seconds. No offense, Klay — your GM had to at least consider it.

I could have saved the Raiders their $385 million relocation fee with one word of advice: Levi’s.
