Search suspended: Crews looking for a man who was swept away in a flash flood in central Arizona suspended their search over concerns that thunderstorms moving through the area would cause more flooding. Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management spokeswoman Tiffany Davila says the search for 27-year-old Hector Miguel Garnica in Tonto National Forest is scheduled to resume Wednesday. Garnica’s wife, three young children and other extended family members were killed Saturday after a torrent of water from a thunderstorm upstream roared through the area.

Hastert out of prison: Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert was released from prison in Minnesota and transferred to a Chicago re-entry facility, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Hastert was sentenced to 15 months in prison in April 2016 in a banking violations case that revealed accusations he had sexually abused teenagers while coaching wrestling at a suburban Chicago high school. The Bureau of Prisons said in an email that Hastert left the Minnesota prison on Monday and is now “under the jurisdiction” of a Chicago residential re-entry management office. Hastert’s release date is listed as Aug. 16.

Islamophobia posters: Boston has launched a new public service campaign to fight Islamophobia by offering the public ways to address aggression toward others because of their appearance or beliefs. The campaign launched this week involves 50 posters that provide a step-by-step guide to handling when someone is being harassed. They will be posted on bus stop benches and other public places around the city. The posters encourage people to engage with the person who is being targeted and to draw attention away from the harasser.

Face transplant: The Cleveland Clinic says a 21year-old woman disfigured by a gunshot as a teenager has received a face transplant. The hospital says the 31-hour surgery in May was its third face transplant and its first “total face transplant.” It included her scalp, eyelids, nose, facial muscles and nerves, teeth and much of her jaw. The medical center isn’t sharing names and other details about the patient and donor to protect their privacy. Doctors say the transplant will help the woman breathe, speak, chew and express emotions more effectively.

GOP budget: Republicans tried to move on quickly to tax legislation Tuesday, taking the first step with a budget proposal that calls for reducing tax rates for businesses and individuals. The plan calls for consolidating tax brackets and cutting rates, repealing the alternative minimum tax and switching the United States from a worldwide tax system to a territorial tax system. Under a territorial tax system, the federal government would tax only the domestic income of a corporation and would exempt most or all foreign income. A worldwide system taxes all income of a corporation, regardless of where it is earned. Chronicle News Services
