Ursula Renate Burger

Passed away on July 4, 2017, was born in Stuttgart, Germany Oct. 9. 1935. Her family moved to Zurich, Switzerlan­d in 1936 where her father, Willy Burger, was bassoonist with the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra for many years.

After her school years, Ursula completed an apprentice­ship at a music store in Zurich in 1954. She then worked as an au pair in London for 14 months where she became fluent in English. She also spent time as an au pair in Geneva, Switzerlan­d.

Returning to Zurich, she worked as a sales person for Rena Kaufmann music store from 1957 until emigrating to the US in 1967. She worked initially with in her brother, Erwin Burger, at his music store in San Francisco, then worked for various companies, including Wien Air as an airline stewardess in Alaska

Ursula studied bassoon in her youth and, following her love of music, was an usher at the San Francisco Opera House for many years. Later, when she moved to San Mateo County, she was active in the West Bay Sparklers, a trade organizati­on, and is a past president. She married Robert Poole of Danville, CA in 1980, and during the next ten years took several trips to Europe, visiting family, and indulging in their mutual love of good food and wine.

Ursula is remembered by her family in Switzerlan­d, sisters Gretli Nabholz, and Lore Nestler, nieces, Karin Ungricht and Gerda Gehrig, nephew Peter Nabholz and great nephews Jerome and Yannick Ungricht, and Philipp Gehrig. Also, by her counsin Ingrid Boehler. In the US, her remaining family includes her sisterin-law, Wendy Burger and her children, Elsa Burger and Christoph Burger, his wife, Felicia Johnson, their children Jocelyn, Gavin and Andrew Burger. The family will hold a private remembranc­e of her life at a later time.
