Care for animals

I read the article on veganism with great interest. There is much to discuss within this story. To address just one aspect, I, too, have heard the criticism that vegans care more about animals than people.

This is a specious argument. It implies that we as humans can only care about one thing at a time, and I think we can all agree that is not the case. In our culture, animals have no voice or rights. It’s not unlike how society views children, thus they all need us to be their voice. For me personally, my heart is big enough to care about animals and humans, the two are not mutually exclusive and very often overlap.
